The mighty neo-Gothic St Martin’s Church is the focal point of Šmartno pri Litija, which takes its name from the church. The church, with its two 60-metre-high bell towers, contains preserved monuments to local dignitaries from the 16th century, while the interior of the large church is adorned with paintings by painter Anton Jebačin and Kastner from Vienna.
The mighty church, visible from afar, is the centre of the town, first mentioned in 1135. The church in the heart of Slovenia is an attractive choice for wedding ceremonies and a popular sightseeing spot on various trips around the heart of Slovenia.
