Church of St Nikolaja

In the centre of Litija, on the site of the church mentioned by Janez Vajkard Valvasor in the Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, the Church of St Nicholas – the patron saint of boatmen – has been completely renovated over the last decades. Since 2013, it has been home to the mosaic of the Transfiguration on the Mountain by Marka Rupnika, a Slovenian mosaicist and theologian who won the Prešeren Prize.
