The parish church of St Mihael is the oldest and most precious monument of art in Mengeš. The semicircular niche of the presbytery is a remnant of an old Romanesque church, while the altar area dates from the middle of the 15th century, from the Gothic era. The frescoes from the workshop of John of Ljubljana also date from this period. Among the church’s special treasures are the confessional and the baptistery, designed by the greatest Slovenian architect, Jože Plečnik, on the model of ancient Christian baptisteries.
