The Ljubljanica and Kamniška Bistrica rivers flow into the Sava at the picturesque confluence of the Sava at Podgrad. The Ljubljanica and Sava rivers were once an important waterway and a source of fish supply. The confluence is still an attractive destination for fishermen today. It is one of the last surviving major natural gravel pits on the Sava, one of the last major lynx spawning grounds in Europe, and the part of the Sava that runs through the municipality of Dol pri Ljubljani has always been an elite lynx fishing area. In addition to fish, many water birds can be seen here, mushrooms can be picked in the meadows between the Sava and Mlinščica rivers in spring, and a keen eye will spot many other interesting plants and animals that are at home here.
