Castle Bogenšperk

The heart of Slovenia is best viewed from viewpoints such as the mighty Bogenšperk Castle near Šmartno pri Litija at an altitude of 412 m. From this castle, the famous Janez Vajkard Valvasor looked out over the landscape as early as the 17th century.

The castle’s collection of costumes, copper-printing and alchemical magic collection, and stylishly decorated rooms such as the Valvasor Study Room with the original copy of Valvasor’s The Glory of the Duchy of Carniola (1689) are on display here. In addition to individual tours, the castle also offers animated tours for groups with Baroness Ana Maksimila Valvasor and the servant Jernej, as well as educational programmes.

Bogenšperk Castle is an excellent choice for getting married in the castle hall or under the canopy of the castle’s avenue. You can organise your wedding reception in the Castle Tavern, which is also suitable for various celebrations. You can also have a picnic in the castle or in its natural surroundings! You can hire the entire castle or the castle premises for business events: seminars, conferences, presentations, banquets.

You can visit Bogenšperk to remind yourself of Valvasor’s silver signet, a graphic leaf with the castle’s imprint, the miniature Glory of the Duchy of Carniola, the castle brandy and herbal oils. You can buy them in the castle shop.

You can also visit Bogenšperk for various events, and you can include hiking trails and recreation on the circular trim trail in your wander around the castle surroundings.
