The starting point for this trip is in Dolsko, in front of the Vegov hram Inn, where you can also rent bikes or hire a cycling guide. Turn left off the village road and head towards Laze and across the Sava Bridge. The road branches off towards Podgrad. In the meantime, the route offers a stunning view of the confluence of rivers. In Podgrad at the Pecelj Inn, turn left into the underpass below the railway and continue through the valley of Besnica all the way to Veliko Trebeljevo. For courageous and fit cyclists there is a route to Janče offering a stunning panorama all around. Leaving Janče, you will cycle along the ridge to Velika Štanga and head down to Štangarske Poljane. Should you decide to not go to Janče, continue along the main road in Veliko Trebeljevo, heading down to Šmartno pri Litiji. In Šmartno, turn left towards Litija. In Litija, you can decide to take the train (together with bikes) to Laze. Or you can follow the old road on the right bank of the River Sava and cycle for another 20 km to Dolsko.
INTERESTING FACT
There is a unique nature’s beauty near Podgrad – confluence of the Sava, the Kamniška Bistrica and the Ljubljanica. This picturesque spot, where extensive gravel deposits are formed, is a natural habitat to numerous plants and animals, one of which is also the Danube salmon. The view over the confluence is even better from the right bank of the River Sava, near Podgrad; gravel deposits below the confluence are accessible from the left side, i.e. from the Sava terrace below Dol.
